Today we were working with a group of kids super-stoked to be out sharing waves with best friends. When it came time to bring the lesson to an end, my best weapon was, "hey, we have fresh pineapple on the beach!" That gottem.
Later while enjoying delicious fresh pineapple in the shade, one of the groms told me that was the best pineapple ever. We got it from the ladies at Super Sol. Thank you for having the best produce!

We share an office with some cool characters. They can be a little standoffish. The staff at Hotel Alma del Pacifico, located in Esterillos Este is very friendly. This is where we do our beginner whitewater lessons. Come on out and learn to surf, have lunch at the restaurant and check out the wildlife.

The other day in the ocean a tourist "sidled" up along side asking, "How do you know where the waves will break?" As I reply, "See that black dog on the beach? Line up just to this side...". As the dog starts ambling, I say, "Hold the phone...dogs movin toward the channel."

PURA VIDA (Costa Rica Slang)

oc. adj. (jergal) Pura Vida Literally means "pura life", fine, cool, very well or everything is ok, it can be used as a greeting, farewell, to express satisfaction or wellness (is everything ok?, yes, pura vida! / Goodbye! Pura vida!).

And by Wikipedia:

Pura Vida is a phrase used in Costa Rica on various occasions, but especially in response to the greeting ("How are you?" - "Pura vida") and is equivalent to "very well", although it should be noted that the inhabitants of that Central American country gives it a broader and deeper interpretation.

The simple meaning of Pura Vida is Pure Life or Simple Life. And this has a lot to do with the culture and attitude of the local Ticos. The towns of Costa Rica tend to be much more laid back and carefree than many other countries and towns. They just don't worry as much as others do, there is really no need to worry when you are in paradise. It is probably the most common phrase that travelers to the country often hear.

Pura Vida is both a greeting and a farewell, an answer to the question: "How are you?" And a pronounced expression, perhaps he screamed - on joyous occasions.

The "pura vida" symbolizes for Costa Ricans the simplicity of good living, the attachment to humility, abundance, exuberance, well-being, joy, peace, satisfaction, conformity, happiness and optimism, associated with the art of appreciating good looks in simplicity. and natural, the art of good living.

NICE!!!

Deep in the heart of the Costa Rican rainforest (in Esterillos Este) we find this pre- historic specimen in its' natural habitat, which happens to be the middle of the road.

If you see one of these beauties, please slow down. You are probably not late for work or responding to an emergency.

Iguana, it's not what's for dinner.

I moved to Esterillos Oeste in 2003 from Houston, Texas where I worked in the advertising business for 15 years. I started a surfing business in town and like to paddle out as often as time allows without being negligent to my responsibilities to family, church, community or our chilly peppers.
